High school totally bites when you're half human, half vampire.
Freshman year sucks for Vlad Tod. Bullies still harass him. The photographer from the school newspaper is tailing him. And failing his studies could be deadly.
A trip to Siberia gives "study abroad" a whole new meaning as Vlad connects with other vampires and advances his mind-control abilities, but will he return home with the skills to recognize a vampire slayer when he sees one?
In this thrilling sequel to Eighth Grade Bites, Vlad must confront the secrets of the past and battle forces that once again threaten his life.
Ninth Grade Slays Chronicles of Vladimir Tod Book 2 (Audible Audio Edition) Heather Brewer Kevin Pariseau Penguin Group USA and Audible Books
If Vlad thought 8th grade was bad, he's in for a whole other level of awful in his first year of high school. In Heather Brewer's second book of The Chronicles of Vladimir Tod, we see Vlad starting to become more aware of his vampiric qualities while still experiencing the normal problems of high school: homework, bullies, and a crush on a girl with whom he thinks he's blown any chance he had. How he handles all the pressure leads us through Ninth Grade Slays.A lot happens in Vlad's ninth grade year, and much of it takes place away from school. Vlad's uncle Otis arrives back in town and whisks Vlad off to Siberia for winter break to help him discover more of his powers. What Vlad also experiences is a sense of who his father was and how that applies to Vlad; it also begins to give us a glimpse into the idea that Vlad might possibly be The Pravus, a mythical vampire who is born (like Vlad), not created, and who will eventually rule the humans and the vampires. Meanwhile, Vlad's got a new friend in his best friend Henry's cousin Joss; the three boys stick together, though Vlad and Henry are careful to keep Vlad's secret identity.
I liked this entry in the series, but not quite as much as the first installment. I kept wanting to see Vlad stand up for himself against the bullies (I just know he's got some super human strength coming soon!), and the whole is he or isn't he the Pravus is a bit draggy. I could see the plot "twist" coming, but that didn't make it less enjoyable. I just hope that the next few books will move the story along a bit more and not mire down in what ifs. Fun, escapist reading, however, and those young adult readers who love vampires won't be disappointed.

Ninth Grade Slays Chronicles of Vladimir Tod Book 2 (Audible Audio Edition) Heather Brewer Kevin Pariseau Penguin Group USA and Audible Books Reviews
As advertised
This book was great! The story of Vladimir Todd as he makes his way through high school, being the only vampire human hybrid is wonderful. Not only is the book easy to read, it's also funny and keeps your attention. I haven't found a slow moving part in the series thus far. I am very impressed.
I loved this book, it was great, it has become my favorite book. Since I read the first page of eighth grade bites, I have had a hunger like no other for the rest of the books. I can't wait to read tenth grade bleeds, and all the others. It had a wonderfully, and quite unpredictable plot, I which is very hard to find. In the word of Hades,"two thumbs way way up!"
Great story and series!
A very entertaining portrayal of a vampire that grows old like a human, goes to school, falls in love, etc. He just has a psycho vampire and a slayer who happens to be his best friend after him. Very cute. Well done. I thought the plot took a little bit to get into but once you did it was interesting if just a little cliche. Still if you like vampire stories like morgansville and the vampire kisses series you'll like this one too.
Vlad returns, with all his glorious sarcasm that I so love!
Heather Brewer does a wonderful job of drawing us into the continuing exploits of Vladmir Tod, freshman at Bathory High. He's still got a huge crush on Meredith. He makes new friends, and a budding school paper reporter threatens to expose Vlad's secret.
Oh, did I forget to mention he's a vampire?
The second installment in this series holds more of the excitement, action and humor we loved in Eighth Grade Bites, the first of the Chronicles of Vladmir Tod.
If you're like me, and you prefer your heros to have their flaws, and female characters to exist beyond behaving like pretty but empty soap bubbles, you'll love Vlad and the world Heather Brewer has created.
Like the first book in the Vladimir Tod series, I loved this book. It's the second book. Vlad is a teenage half vampire, his mother was human, his father a vampire. His best friend is his drudge due to an accidental biting when Vlad was 8 years old. Like all unpopular teenagers, he's got a crush on the prettiest girl in school and is harassed by bullies on a daily basis.
In this book Vlad has made a new friend, Henry's cousin, Joss. There's also trouble in town, a vampire slayer has come. He's been hired to hunt down Vlad and kill him. But who's the slayer? You won't find out until close to the end, keeping the suspense up. Vlad will also travel with this uncle to Siberia to learn a few things about mind control and he discovers along the way he's the Pravus; a legendary vampire who up until now was only a myth.
Friendships will be tested and feelings will be hurt. Vlad will have to make choices with his new powers as to whether he's going to do good or follow the myth of the Pravus. I was very saddened to find out who the slayer is and felt for Vlad in this book. He just wants to be normal. What I don't understand though is why does Otis insist on paper letters? With the internet and cells phones, etc why use snail mail?
Like the first book, it's a page turner and the characters are great. This is a good read for teens and adults. Can't wait to read the next one.
